Christmas is celebrated in different ways by people from other countries. Although Christmas is an annual holiday observed by millions of people worldwide, many households and communities have created creative customs and traditions around the festive season. 

From preparing 12-course meals in Italy to hanging stockings above the fireplace, here are five unique Christmas celebrations worldwide. 

In the Philippines, Christmas is celebrated for five months, starting in September and lasting till January. During the holiday season, many Phillipinos hang decorations such as paper lanterns called “parols.” They also eat family-style meals on Christmas eve, otherwise known as Noche Buena. 

Japanese families flock to KFC to feast on fried chicken and sides. Christmas day is also a romantic day for couples living in Japan. 

Nigerians are notorious for throwing lively parties, events, and entertainment shows during the Christmas season. On Christmas day, Nigerian families start the day by going to church, then later convening at home to eat Party Jollof and connect with friends and loved ones. 

In Australia, the Christmas holidays occur during their summer months, which means more heat than snow for Australian natives. On Christmas day, instead of caroling and drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace, Australians make their way to the beach to enjoy a good barbecue and light swim.
